Skills assessments and choosing an occupation supported by your work
A qualification title and years of employment do not tell the whole assessment story. Authorities look at matters such as course content, the level of work performed and payment evidence. I help identify an occupation supported by your background and explain the relevant criteria before you pay for an assessment.

Choosing the right occupation
Occupation selection connects your actual duties, the assessing authority and potential visa options. For example, a hypothetical laboratory worker cannot choose a code from “lab technician” on a contract alone: the tests performed, techniques used, responsibility and education all matter. “Nec” means “not elsewhere classified”; it is not a fallback for work that fails another occupation's criteria. Different experience requirements are relevant only where the proposed occupation genuinely fits the evidence.
Evidence that assessors accept
Employment reference letters on letterhead, signed by someone with authority, listing dates, hours, position and detailed duties
Payslips, tax records, superannuation statements and contracts that corroborate the letters
Academic transcripts and completion certificates, with certified translations
For TRA pathways, evidence of hours worked and workplace assessments
Where references are unavailable, checking whether the authority permits alternatives, which may include a declaration from someone familiar with the work and independent payment or tax records
An employment reference must describe real duties that an authorised person can confirm. Assessors may contact the employer. I help clarify the wording and required details, but duties should not be added merely to resemble an occupation description.
The TRA Job Ready Program
Eligible international trade graduates should check the Provisional Skills Assessment requirements before progressing through Job Ready Employment, Job Ready Workplace Assessment and Job Ready Final Assessment. The programme requires at least twelve months of paid full-time employment, or part-time equivalent, with approved employers. Do not reduce the current calculation to the former 1,725-hour figure. I help track the evidence, employment stages and remaining 485 time.

Frequently asked questions
How long is a skills assessment valid?
Validity depends on the authority and the visa rules under which you use the assessment. Many invited skilled visas apply a three-year limit or a shorter validity period stated on the result. Check the issue date, expiry and the point at which a valid assessment is required for your particular application.
My degree is in a different field from my job. Is that a problem?
It depends on the authority. VETASSESS, for example, often allows a qualification in a less relevant field if you have additional years of experience. We check the specific rule before applying.
Discuss your circumstances with a registered migration agent
Book a consultation to discuss the requirements that may apply to you, any concerns about your case and what needs to be prepared. You are welcome to speak in Vietnamese or English.
Early assessment checks help you identify a supported occupation and understand the experience and points you can claim. English preparation can run alongside this work, but occupation eligibility should not be left until the EOI stage.

Have a visa question or need help getting started?
A 30-minute consultation gives us time to discuss your circumstances, consider initial options and identify the documents that need checking. Some matters require a further review of the records before I can give a complete assessment.
